Can I Get a Custom Marble Sink Made?

Yes, a marble sink can be made to order. A basin carved from solid stone is already a bespoke process, so changing the size, shape, stone or drain position is a change of instruction rather than a change of method. The trade-off is that a custom piece takes longer, costs more, and cannot be returned, because it exists only because you asked for it.

That last point is the one people underestimate, so we will deal with it properly rather than in the small print.

Can you get a custom sink made?

With solid stone, yes, and more easily than with almost any other material. A ceramic basin comes out of a mould, so a custom ceramic basin means a custom mould, which is only economic in the hundreds. A stone basin is cut and hollowed from a block by hand and machine, so making it 27 inches wide instead of 24 is a change to a drawing, not a change to tooling.

Our standard wall-mounted range already runs 16 to 40 inches in 2 inch steps for this reason. Several of our listings, including the Calacatta Viola wall-mount sink and the custom travertine sink, are made to order across that full span rather than held in stock.

What can be changed

Dimensions. Width, depth, bowl depth and overall height, within what the block allows.

Stone. Any marble, travertine, onyx or limestone we quarry or hold. Colour and vein character can be discussed against actual blocks rather than a catalogue.

Shape. Rectangular, round, oval, square, trough, conical, or a drawn profile.

Front detail. Plain, fluted, ribbed, split-face, hand-carved or wave edged.

Backsplash. Height and whether it is cut from the same block, which is what makes the vein run continuously from wall to bowl.

Drain and tap positions. Single or multiple bowls, centre or offset waste, deck holes or none.

Finish. Polished, honed or textured, and different finishes inside and outside the bowl.

What cannot be changed

The vein. We can select a block and tell you what it looks like. We cannot place a vein where you would like it. Stone came out of the ground the way it came out of the ground, and any supplier promising a specific pattern is either printing it or guessing.

Colour matching to a sample. Two blocks from the same seam differ. A custom basin will be the same stone as the reference and not the same piece.

The weight implications. A wider basin is heavier, and past a point that changes what the wall has to do. We will tell you the weight before you commit, not after.

Physics. Very thin sections in a long unsupported span are a fracture risk. If a drawing asks for something that will not survive shipping, we will say so and propose the nearest version that will.

How much does a marble sink cost when it is custom?

Custom pieces price from the same logic as standard ones: volume of stone, carving hours, stone rarity and yield. Our standard range runs $650 to $4,500, and most made-to-drawing pieces sit inside or slightly above that band rather than in a different world. Genuinely large one-offs, such as double trough basins over 47 inches or matched sets for a hospitality project, are quoted per project.

The price drivers worth knowing: a backsplash cut from the same block adds significantly more than a separate splash, because it requires a much larger starting block. Fluting and hand-carving add hours. And unusual stones cost more not because the rock is precious but because the rejection rate is higher.

How long does it take?

Production time is stated on every product page as Delivery Time, and it runs from 1 to 4 weeks for most pieces up to 8 to 14 weeks for the most complex. Custom work sits at the longer end. United States transit after production is 3 to 4 business days, and shipping within the US is free.

Plan the order around the build programme rather than the other way around. A basin ordered when the plumbing first-fix is being done arrives comfortably. A basin ordered when the tiler finishes does not.

The condition: custom pieces are non-returnable

Our standard returns policy allows 30 days, with the customer covering return shipping and a 25% restocking fee. Custom and personalised orders are excluded from it entirely.

This is not a technicality, and we would rather explain it than bury it. A stock basin that comes back can be sold to somebody else. A basin cut to your wall, in your stone, with your drain position, cannot. The block it came from is gone.

What we do instead is front-load the checking. Dimensions are confirmed in writing before cutting. Where the stone selection matters we can show the block. And damage in transit is covered separately: report it within 14 days and it is our problem, not yours. How to start

Send dimensions, a rough sketch or a reference photograph, and the room context: wall construction, vanity height, tap you intend to use. The sketch does not need to be technical. Most useful briefs we receive are a phone photograph of the wall with measurements written on it.

Where custom is genuinely worth it, and where it is not

Worth it: an awkward wall run that no standard basin fits; a double vanity where a single trough basin reads better than two bowls; a project where several washrooms need to match; a specific stone you have already fallen for; and any case where the backsplash should be cut from the same block as the bowl, because that is only possible when the piece is made as one.

Not worth it: a difference of an inch or two from a standard size, which usually costs more than it improves; a request driven by a photograph of somebody else's stone, because the vein will not repeat; and a first stone purchase where you are still unsure whether you want marble at all. In that last case, buy a standard vessel basin, live with it for a year, and commission the second one knowing what you actually like.

Commercial and hospitality orders

Matched sets for hotels, restaurants and offices are a different conversation from a single domestic piece, mainly because "matched" needs defining. Stone will not match exactly across a run of basins. What can be controlled is the family: same quarry, same seam, similar tone and vein density, selected together rather than ordered separately over months.

For those projects we work from a schedule rather than a product page, and lead time is driven by block selection rather than carving. The earlier the enquiry, the better the match, because it lets us hold stone rather than hunt for it.
