One basin in a private bathroom can be as individual as the stone allows. Forty basins across a hotel floor cannot. The specification question is not whether the stone is beautiful, it is whether unit thirty-eight looks like unit one, and whether the fortieth can still be replaced in year three.

We handle that by reserving block rather than picking pieces. A project quantity is cut from as few blocks as the size allows, spare units are carved at the same time and held, and the block reference is recorded against the order so a later replacement starts from the right material rather than from a colour name.

Specifying stone for heavy use

Natural stone in a public washroom fails in predictable ways, and all of them are avoidable. Etching comes from acidic cleaners, so the cleaning schedule has to be written into the housekeeping manual rather than left to whoever is on shift. Staining comes from an unsealed or overdue surface, so re-sealing has to sit on the maintenance calendar at six to twelve months. Chipping comes from impact at the rim, so the tap and the soap dispenser positions matter. Specify the protocol at the same time as the basin and the installation will outlast the fit-out.

Three things a specifier should settle early

  • Volume and repeatability

    Tell us the total quantity and the tolerance you can accept between units at the enquiry stage, not after the first delivery. That number decides how many blocks we need and therefore both the price and the lead time.

  • Housekeeping protocol

    pH-neutral cleaner only, dried after cleaning, re-sealed every 6 to 12 months. Acidic products, including standard limescale removers, etch the surface permanently and that damage is not recoverable by polishing on a shaped bowl.

  • Delivery to site

    Stone arrives crated and heavy. Confirm who receives it, whether there is a loading bay or a lift, and where it will be stored before installation. Damage found on arrival must be reported within 14 days with photographs.

Can you supply forty matching basins?

Yes, subject to block availability, and the honest answer to how closely they match depends on the stone. Travertine and quieter marbles hold a consistent appearance across a run far better than figured stones such as Calacatta Viola. Tell us the quantity first and we will tell you what is realistic.

What lead time should I allow on a contract order?

Longer than the 1 to 4 weeks shown on catalogue product pages, because the block has to be sourced before carving starts. Volume lead times are quoted and confirmed in writing at the enquiry stage; bring us in early and the date becomes a planning input rather than a risk.

Do you offer trade or project pricing?

Project quantities are quoted individually rather than bought at catalogue prices. Send the quantity, the sizes and the programme through the Custom Orders page and we will price it as a project.

How do replacements work three years later?

We record the block reference against the order and, where the project allows, carve spare units with the main run and hold them. Without a spare, a replacement is a new block and a visible difference is likely, which is why spares are worth their cost on a hospitality fit-out.

Is natural stone suitable for a public washroom at all?

Yes, on the condition that the cleaning regime is specified with it. The failures we see are almost always chemical rather than mechanical: an acidic cleaner used once can etch a bowl permanently. Specify pH-neutral cleaning and scheduled re-sealing and stone performs well under heavy use.
