The round stone bowl is the oldest washing vessel there is, and it survives because it works: no corners to trap soap, no edge to chip, and a curve that shows the stone from every side. We turn ours on a lathe from a single block, then finish the rim by hand so the thickness stays even where the light catches it.

Warm stones suit this shape better than white ones. Travertine, beige marble and honey onyx carry a natural grain that a round bowl wraps around, which is why most of this range sits in that palette rather than in the high-contrast Calacatta family.

Choosing the stone, not the shape

Round basins are close in silhouette, so the decision is almost always about stone. Light travertine reads as soft and matte and hides water marks well. Noce and dark travertine bring more contrast and pattern. Beige and cappuccino marble sit between the two and pair naturally with brass or bronze taps. Honey onyx is translucent and shows light through the wall of the bowl, which is striking but shows every mark. If the room already has strong tile or joinery, choose the quieter stone.

  • Vessel bowls sit on top of the counter, so the finished rim lands 4 to 6 inches above it.
  • Standard counter height of 32 inches becomes 36 to 38 inches at the rim with a vessel bowl.

Three things to check before you order

  • Tap height

    A vessel bowl raises the working height. Measure from the finished counter to the rim, add it to your counter height, and make sure the tap spout clears the rim by at least two inches. Most standard basin taps are too short for a vessel bowl.

  • Stone tone

    Travertine and beige marble vary from piece to piece and from block to block; that variation is the material, not a fault. If the bathroom already has a strong tile pattern, a quieter stone will age better in the room than a dramatic one.

  • Patina and care

    Warm stones develop a patina with use. Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner and dry the bowl after use to reduce water marks. Re-seal every 6 to 12 months. Never use vinegar, bleach or limescale remover on marble, travertine or onyx.

Frequently asked questions

Is travertine a marble?

No. Travertine is a limestone formed at mineral springs and it has small natural voids in the surface, which are filled and polished during finishing. It is softer than marble and slightly more porous, so it wants the same sealing routine but a little more often.

Why is there a hole or pit in the travertine?

Travertine forms with natural cavities. They are filled with a matching resin during finishing, and small filled points remain visible. That is characteristic of the stone and is not treated as a defect.

Will a round bowl fit a standard vanity?

Almost always, because it sits on top rather than in a cut-out. Check the bowl diameter against the vanity depth and leave room behind for the tap. A 16-inch bowl on a 20-inch deep vanity is comfortable; an 18-inch bowl is not.

Does onyx really let light through?

Yes. Honey onyx is translucent at the wall thickness we carve, so a light behind or above the bowl will glow through it. It is also the most delicate stone in this range and shows etching more readily than travertine.

What if the bowl arrives damaged?

Report it within 14 days of delivery with photographs and we will arrange a replacement or a refund. Full Coverage Marble and Freight Insurance can be added at checkout and covers transit damage on stone shipments.
