Straight edges are the hard part

A rectangular basin gives the veining nowhere to hide. On a round vessel the pattern wraps around the bowl and the eye reads it as movement. On a flat 40-inch face it reads as a drawing, so the block has to be chosen for how the veins run across the length, not only for colour.

That is why we select the block before carving rather than after, why we photograph the slab on request, and why a matched pair is cut from the same block. Each sink here is carved from one solid piece. There is no stone veneer over a substrate and no glued corner seam.

Sizing a rectangular basin

Rectangular basins read narrower than they measure, so check the vanity top before choosing a width. Leave at least three inches of counter behind the bowl for a deck-mounted tap, or move to a wall-mounted tap and win that space back. Depths in this range run from 14 to 18 inches, and anything past 16 inches feels tight on a 20-inch vanity. Wall-hung models need a bracket and solid backing behind the plasterboard; we supply the bracket, your fitter supplies the backing.

Three things to check before you order

  • Tap and waste

    Most rectangular and trough models are supplied without a tap hole, which is why a wall-mounted tap or a deck-mounted tap behind the bowl is the usual arrangement. Standard 1.5-inch pop-up wastes fit. There is normally no overflow, so use a click-clack or free-flow waste rather than a slotted one.

  • Vanity clearance

    Measure the cabinet, not the room. A 24-inch basin on a 24-inch vanity leaves nothing at the sides. Allow two inches of counter each side and three inches behind for a deck tap, which in practice means a 30-inch vanity for a 24-inch basin.

  • Sealing

    Marble is porous and this range is sealed before it leaves the workshop. Re-seal every 6 to 12 months. Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth; anything acidic, including vinegar and most limescale removers, will etch the surface permanently.

Frequently asked questions

Will my sink look exactly like the photograph?

No, and that is the nature of the material. The photographs show a representative piece of the same stone. Veining, tone and the density of the pattern change from block to block. If you need to see the actual piece, ask us before production begins and we will send photographs of the selected slab.

Can I get two matching basins for a double vanity?

Yes. Place both on the same order and tell us it is a pair, and we cut them from one block so the veining runs consistently across the two. Larger matched sets depend on block availability, so ask before ordering if you need three or more.

Do these sinks come with a tap hole?

Most do not. A wall-mounted tap, or a deck-mounted tap drilled into the vanity top behind the basin, is the normal solution. If you need a hole drilled in a specific position we can do it, but it has to be requested through the Custom Orders page before production starts.

How heavy are they and what do I need in the wall?

Basins in this range run roughly 25 to 125 kg depending on size; the exact figure is in the Specifications block on each product page. Anything over about 40 kg needs two people to place. A wall-hung basin needs timber or steel backing behind the plasterboard, not plasterboard alone.

How long does it take to arrive?

Production is normally 1 to 4 weeks and is shown on each product page, because the piece is cut to order. Transit inside the United States is 3 to 4 business days after production. We confirm the dispatch date by email once the block has been selected.
