Onyx Sinks

Onyx is the only stone in this catalogue that transmits light. It is a banded calcite laid down layer by layer as mineral-rich water evaporates underground, and at the wall thickness we carve a basin — a little over an inch — light passes straight through it. Put a lamp above a honey onyx bowl and the stone glows from the inside. Marble does not do this. Travertine does not do this. That single property is what the price buys.

Which onyx

Most of this collection is honey onyx: gold, amber, tan and cream banding that reads as warm rather than busy, and sits naturally with brass, unlacquered bronze and warm timber. The Orange Onyx Vessel Sink is the outlier — orange running through beige and brown with heavier caramel banding, a deliberate choice for a small room you want people to remember.

Every basin is carved from a single block in our own workshop in Denizli. No casting, no veneer, no resin filler. Because each block is cut from a different part of the seam, banding and depth of colour shift from one basin to the next; the photographs show a representative piece, not the exact one you will receive.

Form and fit

All four pieces are vessel basins — they sit on top of the counter rather than under it, so you need a flat top with a single drain hole rather than a cut-out. The three round basins run 14.8 to 16.1 inches and are powder-room scale. The rectangular piece is 20.7 inches long and is the only one that reads as a main-bathroom basin. All four take a standard 1.75 inch drain, so ordinary US vessel hardware fits. Add the basin height to your counter height when you plan: the rim is what the user actually feels.

Where onyx belongs

Onyx is softer and more porous than marble, and like all calcite stone it etches on contact with acid — lemon, vinegar, limescale remover, some skincare. That damage is physical and permanent. In a powder room or guest cloakroom, where a basin is looked at far more often than it is used, none of that matters and the stone will outlast the room. In a shared family bathroom it will not stay pristine, and a denser black marble or a travertine basin is the better instrument.

Each basin ships polished and sealed. Keep to a pH-neutral cleaner, blot spills rather than letting them sit, and reseal every six to twelve months. The full reasoning is in our guide to whether onyx sinks are durable enough for a real bathroom.
