Rectangular Marble Sinks

A rectangular basin is a straight-sided bowl cut from a block and sized to run along the length of a vanity rather than sit as a circle on it. That is the practical answer to a wide counter: a round bowl on a 48-inch top leaves two dead zones either side; a rectangle uses the length, gives you usable interior volume, and lines up with the straight edges of the joinery around it.

This collection runs from compact rectangles at around 17 inches through to trough-style pieces above 27 inches, in marble, travertine and limestone.

Rectangle or trough

A rectangular vessel keeps the proportions of a normal basin and sits on a single vanity. A trough — the Troia Travertine Trough Sink and the 27.5-inch Troia are the two here — is long and comparatively narrow, designed either for two people at one basin or for a single dramatic run in a wet room. Troughs need a longer counter and, if two taps are planned, wall-mounted spouts rather than deck mounts.

Carving a rectangle from stone

Straight lines are harder than curves. A turned bowl self-corrects as it rotates; a rectangular basin is worked plane by plane, and the corners have to be radiused by hand so they read as soft rather than chipped. That is why the rectangular pieces carry longer production times than the round ones. It is also why we do not offer knife-edge corners — in natural stone at this wall thickness they would fracture in transit.
