Black Marble Sinks

Black marble is a dark, dense stone whose veining is fine enough that the piece reads as solid colour from across a room. That is exactly what makes it unforgiving: every tool mark, every soft edge and every inconsistency in the polish shows, which is why a black marble basin is the hardest thing in our catalogue to carve well and the fastest way to judge a workshop.

Most of this collection is Toros Black, a dense Turkish marble with fine white veining that reads almost solid from a distance and reveals its movement close up. The remainder are natural dark marbles selected for consistency of tone rather than dramatic figure.

Form

The round vessel pieces — including the shallow-profile Black Marble Shallow Round Sink and the Bros Black Marble Sink — sit between 15 and 17 inches and are turned from a single block. The rectangular pieces run longer and suit a wider vanity or a trough-style layout. The Geometric Black Marble Sink is faceted rather than turned, cut flat-plane by hand. The Black Pedestal Marble Sink is the only floor-standing piece in the collection: a conical column and bowl carved as one, which removes the need for a vanity entirely.

Finish and upkeep

Black marble is supplied honed or polished depending on the piece. A polished surface holds a deeper colour but shows limescale sooner in hard-water areas; honed forgives more and can be refreshed with a stone-safe cleaner. Either way, avoid bleach and acidic descalers, which will etch the surface permanently and leave a pale bloom that cannot be wiped away.
